Leaving a gift in your will to Brighter Futures is a very special way to give back to the hospital and to support the community where you live into the future.
By leaving a gift to Brighter Futures in your will, you are helping us plan for the future, ensuring patient care is the best it can be now and in years to come, whilst bringing you peace of mind and the wonderful feeling that you have supported a cause you care about.
Brighter Futures gratefully receives a number of gifts from wills each year. Every gift makes an important difference to our work at Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and community health services across Swindon, funding facilities, state of the art equipment and ground-breaking research, improving patient care for future generations.
We are grateful for any gift, however large or small to support Brighter Futures.

A guide to writing your will
- We recommend using a solicitor or will-writing service to make sure your will is legal and valid.
- State in your will you would like to leave a gift to Brighter Futures giving our full name and charity number to ensure it goes to the right place: Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund (Registered charity number 1050892). Our Address is Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Marlborough Road, Swindon, SN3 6BB
- Gifts directed to our General Fund are most helpful as funds from here help where the need is greatest. Or you can direct your gift to a specific ward. To find out more please contact us.
- Please let us know if you are writing us into your will. It helps us plan for the future and means we can say a big thank you to you.
- From time to time, we have offers from online partners including discounts or even writing your will free of charge in under 15 minutes! For more information go to https://farewill.com/brighterfutures24
- After you’ve provided for your family and friends, there are a few different types of gift you can leave to us: A share of your estate is called a residuary gift. A gift of an exact sum of money is a pecuniary gift. A specific gift could be jewellery, artwork, property or land. A gift in trust is a gift left for someone to use over a period of time and when the time has ended, the gift can be passed to other recipients such as a charity.
- All gifts to charity from your will are free from inheritance tax.
- Please contact us if you would like a one to one confidential conversation about writing us into your will.
The difference you can make
Rod’s Gift
Rod left a gift in his will because he wanted to make a difference to young people in their time of need. His generous support enabled the build of an amazing play area next to the children’s ward, so our young patients now have a special place to enjoy time with their families during their stay.
Geoff’s Gift
Geoff left a gift in his will to help equip a new radiotherapy centre in Swindon. Thanks to his kindness, hundreds of local cancer patients every year can now have their daily cancer treatment closer to home. Geoff’s generous gift brought the Radiotherapy Centre to fruition. It now sees over 700 patients a year ensuring they do not have to travel the 70 mile round trip per appointment to Oxford and back.
Rosemarie’s Gift
Great Western Hospital played a big part in Rosemarie’s life so she wanted to do something special to help bring about better health services in the future for local people. Rosemarie left a gift in her will so the Eye Clinic could purchase a state of the art machine for non-invasive imaging tests, improving care and the experience for our patients.
