Rehabilitation Bike

New Rehabilitation Bike for Patients in Forest Ward!

Thank you to everyone who kindly supported our Rehabilitation Bike Appeal. We are especially grateful to TE Connectivity and Moose International Swindon Ladies Circle for their generous donations.

This brilliant equipment is now available to patients cared for in the Forest Ward at our Swindon Intermediate Care Centre (SwiCC).  Forest Ward is the rehabilitation unit for the hospital receiving patients recovering from fractured thigh bones, strokes and other neurological conditions.

The bike has been enthusiastically received both by patients and staff. It is easy to set up and really portable so can be easily moved to a patient at their own bed space.

In the course of a year we estimate that the bike will be used 1,000 times.

Thank you so much for helping us to enhance the care offered to our patients!

“The bike has made a huge difference to the engagement of our patients to the rehab ethos of the ward. We are using it daily to build up and maintain patients’ strength to aid their recovery. National guidance for our stroke patients is that they receive a minimum of 45 minutes of each therapy daily. The bike has been able to supplement this therapy without detracting from their direct therapy contact time.”  (Alex Christiansen, Physiotherapist Team Lead)
