Trusts and Foundations

We greatly welcome the support of Charitable Trusts and Foundations who give grants to enhance care at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

In recent years, grant-giving organisations have invested the latest technology and innovative equipment. They have helped us purchase a new Fibroscan to improve the care offered to liver patients; and new incubators for our neo-natal unit. Funders have also made substantial contributions to our Radiotherapy Appeal which will transform local cancer care by bringing cancer services closer to home at the new Swindon Radiotherapy Centre.

Thank you to all our funders for continuing to work in partnership with us to enhance healthcare for local people in Swindon and surrounding areas.

Malmesbury League of Friends

We asked for support to provide a dedicated Mobile X-Ray Digital Radiography System in the new Emergency Department and Children’s Emergency Unit at Great Western Hospital in September 2023.

This machine would be a dedicated resource that can be immediately available to patients requiring emergency treatment and allow prompter diagnostics, appropriate treatment and a much better patient experience.

Of our 120,000 visits to the Emergency Department per year, around 4,000 of those live in the Malmesbury area so Malmesbury League of Friends were keen to support us with a £10,000 gift towards the equipment.

Garfield Weston Foundation

In May 2023, Garfield Weston Foundation kindly granted £25,000 to help bring our CT Scanner project to fruition.

The final cost of the project was £461,700 and was supported by our wonderful community, local companies, trusts and a legacy donation.

The CT Scanner is now fully operational in the new OUH Radiotherapy Centre @Swindon. This means that local cancer patients diagnosed at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust can now access radiotherapy appointments closer to home, instead of travelling a long distance for treatment which can help cure their cancer or manage their symptoms.
